Royal wedding ignites a nation of love

                                                                                                      Amy May Shead

The 29th April will see us celebrating the royal wedding of the decade between Prince William and Kate Middleton. In these difficult financial times, Britain's mood will be boosted and the event really will be exhilarating for everyone - the Monarchy, the Tories, the British people and the furore of the media.

Estimates are suggesting that the economy will benefit from a bridal uplift of £620m as we invest in mugs, key rings and pencils printed with the faces of a charming prince and his beautiful brunette - we will all be making a royal mint. Those who miss out on an invite will even be able to toast the couple with a specially brewed 'Kiss Me Kate' beer.

But enough speak of that; let us speak of love. The wedding is a triumph for love alone. When an enchanting young gentleman gets down on one knee and proposes to his girlfriend of eight years, it is most certainly a great day for love and marriage. Across Britain, countless women whose men have yet to pop the question will be greeting their one and only with evocative looks of… 'Where is my £85k ring?'

Prince William and Kate Middleton are no dynastic partnership. Gone are the days when Royal marriages were used to unite countries, this event is something that the average Mr. and Mrs. Great Britain can directly relate to. The couple are displaying what 'true' love really is. With a friendship that has gradually blossomed into love, it is also far beyond the cheap, embarrassing fleeting flings that are so commonly displayed throughout our modern day society.

Not only is this occasion about love within a relationship, it is about love between family and friends, and most importantly, love for our country. The royal family is part of our heritage and we as a nation have been given the opportunity to display to the rest of the world just what we do best - putting on a tear-jerking, note-perfect ceremonial occasion. It shall be a 'fairytale-like' event, celebrating the 'fairytale-like' romance of a prince falling for a middle class girl - incorporating the participation of cheering crowds, uniformed serviceman, golden carriages, glass slippers and satellite trucks.

People will be bringing out the garden furniture, tossing aside their anxiety and clanging their glasses together as they head to the streets to party. Cast aside will be the feeling of solitude between neighbours whom normally wouldn't even pass the time of day with one another. A real sense of national pride will unite across the breadth and depth of Britain, with all that is good, loyal and true in human relations being portrayed.

So the countdown continues to a good ol'fashioned 'knees up' extravaganza to be enjoyed not only by Britain, but also by the entire world - celebrating the love between our Prince and his stunning bride to be.
